In response to the post transfer expert Fabrizio Romano made on his official X handle of Trump and Ronaldo meeting at the White House on 19 November 2025, an X user, @Smile_1Please had dug up an older clip of the U.S president in a meeting with the Portuguese president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa took great pride in talking about how great a player Cristiano Ronaldo was. He acknowledged,

Don’t forget that Portugal has the best player in the world, that is called Cristiano Ronaldo. I’m sure your son knows him. And so, don’t forget, if you ever go to the Russia during the championship, don’t forget, Portugal is still there and wanting to win.

Ronaldo being described as the best player in the world impact goes beyond his impressive stats and accolades.

Softfootball earlier reported that he has been a source of inspiration to many current superstars, like Kylian Mbappé who opened up about Ronaldo being his greatest source of inspiration and guidance through his career.

Even Marcus Rashford and Erling Haaland acknowledged the football star as their role model. Amid discussions of Ronaldo’s remarkable career, a sudden joke from President Trump sparked laughter all around.

He jokingly asked,

So, will Christian (Cristiano) ever run for president against you? He wouldn’t win, you know he won’t win?

After a little pause, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa dropped a bombshell with a smile on his face,

You know, you know something I must tell you. Portugal is not just the United States, it’s a little different.

The discussion between the two presidents which later transitioned to humour represents the good relationship between two presidents even before Ronaldo’s visit to the white house.

In reply to the video, @Olabest01 said in optimism,

Ronaldo will win presidential election

@Capeblu2 echoed Portugal’s president’s words,

Portugal is not just United States

@0x_emxzycrypt joked,

Two Pressy’s be cooking themselves

The resurfaced clip which has gathered lots of reactions across the world highlights how deeply Ronaldo’s legacy echoes in both political and cultural spaces.

It also shows how much Cristiano Ronaldo who is 40 and retiring soon, has rewritten the world of football.
