Marc Guehi to Leave Crystal Palace as Free Agent in 2026 After Rejecting New Deal

2 Min Read

Marc Guehi has informed Crystal Palace that he will leave when his contract expires in June 2026. The defender has no plans to sign an extension despite the club’s attempts to keep him. The decision comes months after his move to Liverpool fell through on deadline day when Palace couldn’t find a replacement in time, as reported by Softfootball.

Fabrizio Romano posted on his official X account as Palace boss Oliver Glasner confirmed the news after Friday’s training session. He said:

We wanted Marc to stay, but he wants something different.

The England international, who joined from Chelsea in 2021, has been a steady presence at the heart of the Palace defence. Softfootball reported that Bayern Munich and Barcelona are keeping tabs on his situation, with both clubs likely to make a move once he’s free to negotiate in January.

Guehi has made over 150 appearances for Palace, earning respect from fans and teammates alike for his calmness on the ball and consistency in defence. His decision to leave, however, doesn’t come as a huge shock, as those close to the player say he’s been seeking a new environment to test himself at the highest level.

Palace now face the challenge of planning for life after their captain while trying to maintain stability in a season already filled with uncertainty.

His departure will be a big loss for Palace, who have relied heavily on his leadership and composure. For Guehi, though, the next chapter could take him abroad and possibly to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
