England 3–0 Wales: Three Lions Outclass Dragons in Wembley Showpiece

3 Min Read

England turned on the style at Wembley, easing past Wales 3–0 in a friendly that never really looked like a contest. The victory marked England’s eighth consecutive win over their neighbours and stretched their unbeaten run at Wembley to a solid 12 matches.

Just as predicted in Softfootball’s pregame analysis, the Three Lions came flying out of the traps, bagging three goals inside the first 20 minutes their quickest route to a 3–0 lead in almost four decades. Morgan Rogers opened the floodgates in the 3rd minute, calmly slotting home after Marc Guéhi’s clever cutback. Ollie Watkins made it two with a close-range tap-in from Elliot Anderson’s cross, before Bukayo Saka curled in a beauty from the right to make it three before Wales could even catch their breath.

Watkins, who replaced the injured Harry Kane after the striker missed training, could’ve had another before the break but somehow missed from point-blank range before colliding painfully with the post. He was substituted at halftime for Marcus Rashford, with Thomas Tuchel using the second half to rotate and test a few combinations.

England made an appreciation post to the fans who came in their numbers to support the team at Wembley on the team’s official X handle.

For Wales, it was a long, quiet evening. David Brooks forced Jordan Pickford into one decent save early in the second half, but that was about as dangerous as they got. England’s backline, marshaled by John Stones and Guéhi, barely broke a sweat as Pickford extended his unbeaten home record past the one-year mark.

Morgan Rogers is SoftFootball’s Player of the Match, and deservedly so after contributing one goal, one assist, and endless running all night.

The win was another statement from Tuchel’s men, who seem to be finding their attacking rhythm again. England now shift focus to their World Cup qualifier against Latvia on Tuesday, while Wales will host Belgium in what could define their qualification hopes.
