Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi could barely hold back his admiration when discussing Moisés Caicedo, calling the Ecuadorian a complete footballer and one of the best midfielders in the world right now. His remarks came during The Obi One Podcast, where he shared glowing praise for Caicedo’s performances and mentality.
Mikel’s comments come shortly after Caicedo’s standout showing in Chelsea’s recent victory over Liverpool, where he scored a thunderbolt goal and helped the Blues secure a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge, as reported by Softfootball. The Ecuadorian’s growing influence in the Chelsea midfield has also earned recognition from club legend Claude Makelele, who described him as the heir to his iconic midfield role.

Mikel said passionately:
There is no midfield player right now that can give you everything that Caicedo gives. He’s magnificent… breaking up plays, setting up attacks, first to everything, aggressive, a leader, and now chipping in with goals. He’s worth every single penny. It’s brilliant to watch him.

When host Chris McHardy compared Caicedo to N’Golo Kanté, Mikel burst into laughter before saying:
Kanté was a different animal. He could run all day and night, too good, too quick, just amazing.

However, Mikel admitted that both midfielders share rare qualities. He concluded:
Caicedo can do that as well. They’re both equally incredible. If I had to choose, that’s a tough pick
Caicedo’s mix of physical dominance, composure, and technical awareness has not only impressed fans but has also drawn comparisons with some of Chelsea’s greatest midfielders. And with continued performances like these, it’s no surprise Mikel and many others see him as one of the best all-round players in football today.
