Atalanta have confirmed the signing of Polish wing-back Nicola Zalewski from Inter Milan in a permanent deal worth €17 million. The 23-year-old has already passed medical tests in Milan and has signed a long-term contract until 2030.

The 23-year-old underwent medical examinations at Milan’s Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio hospital before putting pen to paper on a deal that runs through 2030. Atalanta’s directors see Zalewski as a long-term piece of their squad overhaul following recent departures.

Atalanta announced the move officially via its official website, writing:

“After the acquisitions of Kossounou, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Ahanor and Sportiello, Nicola Zalewski is the fifth permanent signing of Atalanta BC in this summer transfer window. The Nerazzurri club has acquired the sporting rights from FC Internazionale Milano.”

“The Italian-Polish midfielder, who has chosen the number 59 shirt, already has 95 appearances in Serie A, as well as 26 in the UEFA Europa League and 7 in the UEFA Conference League, the latter of which he won with Roma in May 2022”

The move represents a rapid turnaround and a tidy profit for Inter Milan. Zalewski joined the Nerazzurri just two months ago on a permanent transfer from Roma for €7m, having first arrived on loan in February. After making 15 appearances under Simone Inzaghi, Inter exercised their option to buy but have now flipped the player for €17m, securing more than €10m profit in the process.

For Atalanta, Zalewski becomes their fifth permanent signing of the summer as Ivan Jurić looks to reinforce his squad for the new Serie A campaign. The club hopes to have him available as early as the upcoming match against Pisa. Sources suggest Jurić intends to integrate the left wing-back immediately, viewing his pace and work rate as key assets.

Softfootball also reports that despite the agreed deal between the two clubs over Zalewski, both clubs are in a standstill over the signing of Nigerian superstar Ademola Lookman, and the Italian club will pull out of the deal.

Now, after spells in Rome and Milan, the Polish international begins a new chapter in Bergamo, where he will be expected to provide depth and dynamism down the left flank as La Dea push for another strong Serie A campaign.
