Iñigo Martínez becomes Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate after signing Al Nassr contract

Iñigo Martínez has joined Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr after signing a deal with the Saudi Arabian club, Softfootball reports.

The 34-year-old leaves Barcelona as a free agent after helping the Catalan giants become LaLiga champions for 2024/25 season. Al-Nassr coach Jorge Jesus pushed hard for the deal following the departure of former Manchester City defender, Aymeric Laporte.

According to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, revealed that the deal to take Martinez to Al-Nassr is now completely sealed after he passed his medical.

He said:

“Iñigo Martínez has just signed his contract at Al Nassr after medical done!”

Martinez wanted to leave Barcelona after the sacking of Xavi Hernandez but new manager Hansi Flick convinced him to stay and it paid off they won the Spanish league together and reached the UEFA Champions League semifinal where they narrowly lost our to Inter Milan. The Spanish league title win was the first time ever in his career.

The former Athletic Bilbao defender is likened to Barcelona legend Carles Puyol, known for his heading ability making him an aerial threat on set pieces, despite his modest stature of 1.82m.

He is a tackler, possesses leadership qualities and has the ability to read the game He is a modern defender that is good also with his feet and can pass the ball effortlessly.

Martínez was considered a specialist in the offside trap. At Barcelona under Flick he emerged as a pivotal figure with his leadership and experience, partnering youngster Pau Cubarsí. His offensive ability is also strong as he contributes in attacking corners and free kicks due to his aerial prowess and timing.

Martinez will try to help Al Nassr win the Saudi Arabian League after they lost out last season to Al-Hilal.
