Cristhian Mosquera, Get to know Arsenal’s new signing beyond football

Cristhian Mosquera became Arsenal’s fifth signing of the season. The Gunners sealed his move from Valencia with a fee believed to be around £20m as reported by Softfootball.

Mosquera is a 21 year old Spanish international who was born 27th June, 2004. He started his football career with Spanish side Hercules in 2013 but before then, he was not a footballer.

Softfootball decided to take a look into Mosquera’s life before joining Hercules at age 12 and also bring you two things you might not have know about him before now.

Mosquera was a basketball lover. The young centre back initially took an interest in basketball, playing regularly as a child and watching the NBA.

Cristhian then joined futsal team San Blas Canavate before signing for local football team SCD Carolinas and then Hercules CF.

The Spaniard is born to Colombian parents. This means he could still decide to play for Colombia even though he has adorned the Spanish colours in the age grade tournaments. Despite that, he could still switch allegiance to Colombia for his senior cap.

Mosquera is also an Olympic gold medalist. He was part of the U23 Spain team at the 2024 Olympics games in Paris. He played in the final group game of the team against Egypt. Spain defeated France in the finals of the Olympics games 5-3 in extra time.

Mosquera has joined his Arsenal teammates in training and he might be making his debut in the preseason game against Newcastle on Sunday as the Gunner continue their Asia preseason tour to Singapore and Hong Kong.

The lanky defender described himself as an energetic player as he spoke to Arsenal media in his first interview with the club.

Mosquera said:

I’m a player with a lot of energy. I’m young, so I still have plenty to give. I’m fully motivated and excited. Above all, I want to improve, which will create competition within the squad. I’m really happy.

Mosquera will wear the number 3 jersey at the Arsenal.
