Arsenal are reportedly preparing to part ways with Fabio Vieira following his season long loan spell with Porto, with the club willing to take a loss of around £10 million on the Portuguese midfielder.

Softfootball understands that the 25-year-old who joined the Gunners from Porto in a surprise £34.2 million deal three years ago, but has failed to prove his credentials at the club is now valued at approximately £20 million.

Vieira has struggled to adapt to the extra physicality of the Premier League. He has also sustained untimely injuries, which have hampered his development.

The Gunners have reportedly accepted that Vieira hasn’t met expectations and are open to a sale as they look to reshape their midfield options ahead of the new season.

According to what has been reported by The Times, via TMW, Arsenal are prepared to part ways with Vieira to help finance their ambitious summer plans which has seen the Gunners wrap up several key deals already and closing in on Sporting striker Victor Gyokeres.

Incidentally, Serie A side Parma are currently leading the race to sign Vieira, with former Arsenal assistant coach, Carlos Cuesta now managing the Italian club.

Carlos Cuesta left his role as one of Mikel Arteta’s assistants at Arsenal this summer to become the new head coach of Parma. The ambitious young coach looks to usher in a new era at the club and could turn to his old club in search of reinforcements.

Cuestra will know all about Vieira’s skill set from his time at the Emirates, and the midfielder will also be aware of his former coach’s attributes too, and on that basis, Vieira is keen to work with Cuestra at Parma if a deal can be agreed.

When Arteta and Edu Gaspar first signed Vieira in 2022, it seemed as if the pair were convinced they had just made a game changing addition.

Both called Vieira a ‘special’ talent in their welcoming interviews, and it seemed as if Arsenal had found their new creator-in-chief but of course, things haven’t quite worked out as expected for the Portugal international at the Emirates.

In an earlier update, Softfootball reported that Arsenal has opened talks with former premier league star. Arsenal have continued to fortify their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season with serious negotiations to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha.

The former Fulham midfielder have struggled for game time since making his big money switch to the Bundesliga.
