Football world was this morning thrown into sorrow after news of the tragic death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Filipe Teixeira da Silva filled everywhere. While the world knew who his Liverpool and Portugal star brother was, Andre kept a low profile.
So who was André Filipe Teixeira da Silva?
André, Diogo Jota’s brother, was 25 years old and was a professional player for FC Penafiel, a club in Portugal’s Second Division, who stood at t 1.68 metres tall and was right-footed. His preferred position was attacking midfield, very different from the forward role his brother played but he could also function in attacking positions. Although his career did not have the same international projection, André was a committed footballer, respected in his environment and with a promising career within Portuguese soccer.
André was trained in the youth ranks of Gondomar SC, his hometown. before joining Portugal giants, FC Porto during his youth stage. Since 2020, he had played for Penafiel, where he had established himself as a regular member of the squad. His talent was combined with a discreet character, away from the spotlight, but very close to his family, especially his older brother.
In recent transfer market valuation, his most recent market value was €450,000, which was the highest of his career as of June 23, 2025.
The two brothers kept a close relationship, shared vacations, training sessions, and personal moments. They supported each other both on and off the field. They were a family not joined by blood but the game and love.

The attacker who just got married about two weeks ago was in involved a car accident with his brother in the province of Zamora, Spain. The accident is said to have happened at kilometer 65 of the A-52, near the Zamora region of Sanabria. The road in Spain is a key route taken by drivers leaving northern Portugal.
According to local reports, their car slid off the road and caught fire instantly. His brother, Andre Silva who is also a footballer is confirmed dead as well.
