Matteo Guendouzi is expected to leave Lazio this summer, with English clubs Newcastle United and Aston Villa leading the chase for his signature.
Softfootball can confirm that both clubs are eager to bring Guendouzi back to the English Premier League, where he initially dazzled in the colours of Arsenal.
Guendouzi has done well at Lazio since joining permanently from Marseille, making a total of 70 league appearances across two seasons.

The Frenchman offers versatility in midfield and can be regarded as a workhorse in the middle of the park. He would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to either Newcastle or Aston Villa.
Newcastle already appear to have a project with Guendouzi in mind. They offer Champions League football, and with their ambitious project—which has already delivered a trophy—Guendouzi could find himself in a quality squad where his physicality and technical ability would greatly enhance the team’s depth.
However, one key factor works in Aston Villa’s favour: Guendouzi has previously worked under current manager Unai Emery during his time at Arsenal.
The project at Villa is equally exciting, and the possibility of more consistent playing time under a familiar coach like Emery might tilt the scales in their favour.

Interestingly, Newcastle and Villa are not the only English clubs interested in Guendouzi.
Recall that Softfootball earlier reported that newly promoted side Sunderland have also registered interest in the France international.
However, a move to either Newcastle or Aston Villa would be more appreciated by Guendouzi’s camp, as both clubs are seen as an upgrade to Lazio.
At the ripe age of 26, Guendouzi is just entering his prime and would definitely add more flair and depth, with a higher ceiling than when he first arrived in England.
We have already seen glimpses of his talent in the Premier League, and any team that secures his services will be getting a more experienced and improved version of the player who once wore the Arsenal shirt.
