Former Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince arrested for drink driving after crash

Paul Ince, once a key midfielder for Manchester United and Liverpool, was arrested on June 28 in Cheshire after his Range Rover collided with a central reservation on Chester High Road. The 57-year-old was taken into custody by local officers and later charged with drink driving.

Ince’s court appearance is set for July 18 at Chester Magistrates’ Court. He has been released on bail ahead of that hearing.

During his playing career, Ince made 53 appearances for England and won two Premier League titles following his move from West Ham to Manchester United in 1989. He later enjoyed spells at Inter Milan, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Wolves, Swindon Town, and finished with a single appearance for Macclesfield in 2007.

After hanging up his boots, Ince transitioned into management with brief tenures at Macclesfield and MK Dons before stepping up to Blackburn Rovers in 2008. He later returned to MK Dons and went on to coach at Notts County, Blackpool, and Reading. His longest managerial stint was at Reading, where he oversaw 58 matches.

Since leaving Reading in April 2023, Ince has been working as a pundit for Sky Sports and has not taken another coaching role. His on-field exploits and managerial ventures have kept him a familiar figure in English football circles.
