Natalie Sawyer defends Norgaard amid Arsenal transfer backlash

Arsenal’s bid for Brentford captain Christian Norgaard has stirred debate, but talkSPORT host and Brentford fan Natalie Sawyer is standing firm in defense of the 31-year-old. Amid accusations that Arsenal are lacking ambition in the transfer market, Sawyer called out the “snobbery” surrounding the Denmark international’s potential move.

Arsenal have already submitted a £9 million offer for Norgaard as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his midfield. With Jorginho off to Flamengo for the Club World Cup and Thomas Partey nearing contract expiry, reinforcements are essential.

Martin Zubimendi is also expected to arrive from Real Sociedad, but Arteta is pushing hard for Norgaard due to his tactical discipline and experience.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Sawyer said, “There’s a lot of snobbery… He’s our club captain, I’m gutted that he might be leaving.” She highlighted his strengths as a No.6: initiating build-up play, tactical fouls, set-piece threat, and relentless professionalism. While not flashy, she believes he brings the steady reliability a top team needs.

She also compared Norgaard to the archetype of a “teacher’s pet,” referencing his close relationship with Thomas Frank and suggesting he could form a similar bond with Arteta.

Critics may doubt the signing due to Norgaard’s low profile, but Sawyer argues that quality depth and smart recruitment are crucial to Arsenal’s title ambitions. Norgaard, she insists, could quietly prove to be a brilliant squad addition.
