Eberechi Eze’s future has taken an unexpected turn, with Arsenal potentially gaining the upper hand in the race to sign the Crystal Palace winger. Tottenham Hotspur, once considered strong contenders for his signature, have reportedly stepped back, casting doubt over their pursuit.
Spurs were eager to strengthen their wide options under new manager Thomas Frank and initially saw Eze as a viable alternative after losing out on Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. Mbeumo, who appears destined for Manchester United, was Frank’s top pick, but with that move unlikely, attention shifted briefly to Eze.
However, with the permanent arrival of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich to bolster Spurs’ flank, Tottenham’s urgency for another winger appears to have diminished. Despite Eze’s £68m release clause being seen as reasonable and payable in instalments, Spurs’ interest has reportedly cooled significantly.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are now monitoring the situation closely. The Gunners are in need of reinforcements on the left, particularly with top target Nico Williams leaning towards Barcelona. Mikel Arteta’s side could now move decisively for Eze, who delivered an impressive 14 goals and 11 assists in the 2024–25 season.
Given that the clause in Eze’s Selhurst Park deal allows for staggered payments and Arsenal remain in good standing with Financial Fair Play rules, a potential move to the Emirates looks increasingly feasible.
With Tottenham stepping back, Arsenal may now have a clear run at one of the Premier League’s most exciting attackers.
