Five blockbuster transfers that could reshape summer 2025

The 2025 summer transfer window is heating up, with some massive moves already completed and even bigger ones still looming on the horizon. One deal already lighting up headlines is Liverpool’s sensational capture of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial £100 million—a fee that could rise by £16m with add-ons. It’s the Reds’ most expensive signing ever and a historic deal for the Premier League.

But the window is far from closed, and clubs across Europe are preparing to spend big before the September 1 deadline. Here’s a look at five of the most high-profile transfers that could still shake up this summer.

1. Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United)

Viktor Gyokeres’ future remains up in the air. The Swedish striker, who delivered an astonishing 54 goals in 52 appearances last season, initially looked set for Arsenal. But with the Gunners stalling on their striker plans, Gyokeres is reportedly reconsidering his stance and may now be open to a Manchester United switch—reuniting with former boss Ruben Amorim. Juventus were also in the running, but the player reportedly turned them down earlier.

2. Luis Diaz (Liverpool to Barcelona)

Barcelona are hoping to reinforce their treble-winning squad under Hansi Flick with the signing of Colombian winger Luis Diaz. While Diaz has long been linked with a move to Camp Nou, his £60m valuation could prove a stumbling block for cash-strapped Barca. With Saudi Pro League clubs also circling, the Catalans will need to act fast and match any competing offers if they want to land their man.

3. Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt to Chelsea)

Chelsea are in the lead to sign Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt. The French forward scored 15 goals and assisted eight more in the Bundesliga last season, catching the eye with his link-up play and creativity. At just 22, he fits the Blues’ long-term strategy, and with a price tag of £84 million, Chelsea may yet pull the trigger given their aggressive transfer history.

4. Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig to Arsenal)

After narrowly missing out on the Premier League title, Arsenal are looking to upgrade their attack. Benjamin Sesko has emerged as the Gunners’ top target, ahead of Gyokeres. The 21-year-old Slovenian striker is seen internally as a future superstar, and a £75 million fee is unlikely to scare off a financially stable Arsenal. Talks with Sesko’s camp are reportedly progressing well.

5. Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford to Manchester United)

Bryan Mbeumo is coming off a sensational 20-goal season with Brentford and is attracting serious interest from Manchester United and Tottenham. Despite the chance to reunite with ex-Brentford manager Thomas Frank at Spurs, Mbeumo is said to prefer a move to Old Trafford. United, having already landed Matheus Cunha, must now meet Brentford’s valuation to seal the deal.
