Man United bid forces Spurs to shift focus to Eze deal

With Manchester United now leading the race for Bryan Mbeumo, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly turned their attention elsewhere. The North London club are expected to focus on signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze after United submitted an improved bid that could seal Mbeumo’s transfer.

Mbeumo, who scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, has long been a target for both clubs. He is said to prefer a move to Old Trafford despite interest from Spurs, mainly due to already agreeing personal terms with United on a reported £250,000-a-week deal.

Brentford had previously turned down an offer of £55 million from United, sparking talk of Spurs swooping in for the winger. Mbeumo’s connection to former boss Thomas Frank, now at Tottenham, further fueled speculation. However, Softfootball confirmed on Monday that United returned with a new bid exceeding £60 million—matching Brentford’s valuation.

Although some believe Mbeumo would thrive better at Spurs and enjoy more star power there, the player’s mind appears made up. That leaves Tottenham looking for alternatives to strengthen their attacking lineup this summer.

Their eyes are now set on Eberechi Eze, who just wrapped up a fantastic season with Crystal Palace. The England international midfielder not only helped the Eagles win their first-ever FA Cup but also posted impressive numbers—14 goals and 11 assists in 43 games.

While United look likely to seal the deal for Mbeumo, Spurs may land Eze, who could bring flair and creativity to Ange Postecoglou’s squad. As the summer transfer window heats up, both clubs are moving swiftly to secure their attacking reinforcements.
