Barcelona set to sign Roony Bardghji dubbed the Swedish Lionel Messi

Barcelona are on the verge of securing one of Europe’s most exciting young talents as they prepare to finalise a deal for FC Copenhagen’s Roony Bardghji, dubbed the “Swedish Lionel Messi.” The 19-year-old winger, who gained international attention after scoring against Manchester United in the Champions League, is close to sealing a move to Camp Nou.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have beaten both Chelsea and Manchester City to the talented teenager. Bardghji, whose current deal at Copenhagen expires at the end of the year, is expected to be officially announced as a Barcelona player on July 1 once final contract details are ironed out.

Despite missing a large portion of the 2024–25 season due to a serious cruciate ligament injury, the Swedish U21 international has not lost momentum. He returned strongly in the spring and remains highly rated across Europe.

Bardghji has featured in 84 games for Copenhagen, contributing 15 goals and earning a reputation for his flair, close control, and vision — traits that have earned him comparisons to Lionel Messi, particularly among Swedish media and fans.

Born in Kuwait City but representing Sweden at youth international level, Bardghji has scored twice in nine appearances for Sweden’s U21 side. His decision to join Barcelona reflects his preference for a club where young players are nurtured and given space to grow.

The Catalan giants are not done yet. After Bardghji’s signing, they’re expected to shift focus to Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams. The Spanish international has long been linked with a move to Camp Nou and is believed to favour the switch, although Bayern Munich are still making a late push to tempt him to the Bundesliga. If both signings go through, Barcelona could be poised for a new era of attacking flair, building their squad around young stars who could carry the club into the future.
