Man United firm on Sancho exit amid wage dilemma and stalled interest

Jadon Sancho’s future remains in limbo as Manchester United stand firm on selling the winger permanently this summer, but his £250,000-a-week salary is proving to be a significant roadblock. With just a year left on his contract and no route back into Erik ten Hag’s plans, the Red Devils are keen to cut ties and recover a portion of the £73 million they spent in 2021.

Sancho impressed in spells during his loan stint with Chelsea last season, recording five goals and 10 assists in 41 appearances, including a goal in their 4-1 Conference League final win over Real Betis. Yet, Chelsea declined to make the move permanent, opting instead to pay a £5m penalty to break the option-to-buy clause.

Now, United are exploring new destinations for the 25-year-old, with Napoli, Juventus, and Real Betis among the clubs showing interest. However, all suitors are currently leaning toward loan deals, hoping United will cover part of Sancho’s wages — a condition the club flatly rejects. Reports indicate the Red Devils are adamant about offloading him permanently this summer.

Sancho himself is said to be open to a move to Serie A, with Napoli and Juventus monitoring his situation. But unless he agrees to lower his wage demands, any deal remains unlikely. Real Betis also fancy a loan move, especially if they fail to secure Antony from United.

Despite initial demands of £25 million, United may now drop the asking price to £20 million in hopes of attracting serious buyers. That figure could tempt Juventus or Napoli, but only if Sancho is willing to sacrifice a portion of his wages for a fresh start.

If no permanent deal emerges, United may consider extending his contract to allow for a loan exit with the hope of recouping a transfer fee in 2026. While a Saudi move could meet his wage demands, Sancho is reportedly focused on reviving his career in Europe. With pre-season looming, a resolution is urgently needed — but both club and player may have to compromise for this saga to finally conclude.
