Andre Onana is set to fight for his future at Manchester United, turning down transfer interest from Monaco. The 29-year-old goalkeeper endured a tough season filled with mistakes but remains keen to stay and compete for his spot.

Monaco, who secured a Champions League place by finishing third in Ligue 1, approached United about Onana’s availability. However, the shot-stopper has made it clear that his preference is to remain at Old Trafford.

Despite that stance, United are actively assessing their goalkeeping options. Talks have begun with Atalanta for Italian goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi, who recently extended his deal until 2028 and is valued at £42.7 million.

The club has also held discussions over a move for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez. The World Cup winner appeared to bid farewell to fans at Villa Park, further fuelling speculation about his future.

Onana, who joined United from Inter Milan in 2023 for £47.2 million, still has three years left on his contract. He previously hinted at uncertainty, saying, “We’ll see,” when asked about a possible summer exit.

With new manager Ruben Amorim expected to revamp the squad, the goalkeeper position remains under close review. Even if Onana stays, competition may be brought in to push him or eventually replace him.

United’s preseason begins soon, and all signs point to a critical period ahead for Onana. Whether he starts the 2025–26 campaign as first choice could depend on how the transfer window unfolds.
