Lionel Messi struck a sublime free-kick to help Inter Miami claim a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Porto at the Club World Cup, sealing a vital three points and reaching a key personal milestone.

It was a match that began with frustration for the MLS side, who fell behind early to a penalty from Porto’s Samu Aghehowa in the eighth minute. But Inter Miami responded strongly after the break, quickly turning the tide of the match.

Telasco Segovia equalised just two minutes into the second half before Messi took centre stage with one of his trademark set-pieces. Seven minutes later, the Argentine curled an inch-perfect free-kick past Claudio Ramos at the near post, completing the turnaround and sending fans into raptures.

The goal not only sealed the win but also marked Messi’s 50th for Inter Miami in just 61 competitive matches since his arrival in 2023. It was also the 68th direct free-kick of his legendary career, scored across 12 different competitions for club and country.

With six goals in five Club World Cup appearances, Messi remains crucial to Inter Miami’s campaign. Their win over Porto moved them to second in Group A, level on four points with Palmeiras and three ahead of Porto and Al Ahly.

The Herons now have control of their destiny heading into their final group match. Thanks to their head-to-head win over Porto, they cannot be overtaken by the Portuguese side. A draw against Palmeiras would be enough to secure progression, while a win would see them top the group.

As the tournament continues, Messi’s influence grows, his magic remaining undiminished even at 37 — delivering goals, points, and historic moments for Inter Miami.
