Viktor Gyokeres has left his Sporting teammates in the dark about his future, stating he’s not a ‘fortune teller’ as the summer transfer window approaches. The 26-year-old striker has had a sensational season in the Primeira Liga, scoring an impressive 39 goals in just 33 games, leading Sporting to defend their league title successfully. With the Portuguese Cup final against Benfica coming up, Gyokeres is eager to add another trophy to his collection before he potentially departs.
The Swedish forward’s future is uncertain, with top Premier League clubs reportedly interested in signing him. Arsenal, looking to strengthen their attack after a disappointing trophyless campaign, are believed to be preparing a lucrative contract to bring Gyokeres to the Emirates. Manchester United is also in the mix, with rumors linking the forward to a reunion with his former Sporting head coach, Ruben Amorim.
United is expected to ramp up their efforts to sign Gyokeres after their crucial Europa League final against Tottenham, which could influence the club’s transfer plans. Gyokeres, whose current contract with Sporting runs until 2028, is rumored to be available for around £60 million this summer.
Sporting midfielder Pedro Goncalves shared that the squad is still unsure of Gyokeres’ intentions. When asked if he had persuaded Gyokeres to stay, Goncalves replied that the striker had made it clear he was not a fortune teller. Despite this, Goncalves expressed his strong bond with Gyokeres, preferring not to push the subject further. He noted that information about Gyokeres’ future mostly comes from external sources like Fabrizio Romano.
Goncalves also reflected on Gyokeres’ evolution since his move to Sporting from Coventry City two years ago. “He’s grown a lot since joining,” said Goncalves. “At times, it feels like he’s holding back in training.” This development has helped Gyokeres become one of the top strikers in the league.
As Sporting heads into the Portuguese Cup final, the squad is highly motivated to win the double, with Goncalves emphasizing the importance of the match against Benfica. “We all really want this double,” he said. “It’s going to be a tough match, but we’ll go in with all our energy to win it for the fans.”
Gyokeres, who turns 27 next month, is expected to command a transfer fee of around £60 million, a significant increase from the £16.7 million Sporting paid to sign him from Coventry. With his contract in Lisbon running until 2028, Sporting stands to make a substantial profit on the striker if he departs this summer.
