Cole Palmer has voiced his strong belief in Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia, stating that the 21-year-old has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the world. Lavia joined Chelsea in a £58 million deal from Southampton in 2023 but has struggled with injuries, making only a single appearance last season and missing a large part of the current campaign. Despite these setbacks, Palmer is confident that Lavia’s talent will see him reach elite levels in the future.
“I think he’s one of the best midfielders I’ve played with, to be honest,” Palmer told Sky Sports. “Everyone hasn’t seen it because he’s been injured, but I knew him at [Manchester] City.” Palmer expressed his belief that once Lavia enjoys a full season of regular play, his quality will become undeniable. “I think when he has a full season playing and staying fit, everyone will realise the difference he makes.”

Palmer also praised Lavia’s impact when he has played, saying that his contributions have already been noticeable. “The games he has played this season show what difference he’s made,” Palmer added.
In addition to his comments on Lavia, Palmer shared his admiration for Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, calling the 17-year-old winger the best player in the world. Yamal has been instrumental in Barcelona’s success this season, contributing 16 goals and 24 assists. “Everything they do just goes through him,” Palmer said. “He plays with such confidence, no fear. It’s mad to watch him play.”
