Bukayo Saka has named Paris Saint-Germain as the toughest opponent Arsenal have faced this season, despite facing Premier League champions Liverpool earlier in the campaign.
Arsenal have been in the title race with Liverpool, with the two teams drawing 2-2 earlier this season thanks to a late equaliser from Mohamed Salah. However, the Gunners’ impressive record against the Premier League’s Big Six and their Champions League run saw them perform well against the top teams.
But after Arsenal’s first-leg defeat to PSG in the Champions League semi-finals, Saka believes the French side has improved dramatically since their earlier meeting, when Arsenal triumphed 2-0.
“They were like a different team,” Saka told Sky Sports after the 1-0 loss in the first leg at the Emirates. “They’ve got a lot of threat up top, and their midfield moves the ball really well, making you work hard. You don’t want to be chasing the ball for long.”
Saka acknowledged the improved cohesion PSG displayed and how their tactical adjustments made a noticeable difference. “I was impressed with how they moved the ball. They have such good cohesion, and they’re a real threat on the counter.”
While Arsenal were able to handle PSG in their previous meeting, Saka found the latest encounter much tougher, particularly in his duel with Nuno Mendes. “It was a good battle. He’s a top full-back and so quick. I enjoy those challenges, and I’m looking forward to next week.”
Despite trailing PSG 1-0 heading into the second leg at the Parc des Princes, Saka remains confident that Arsenal can turn the tie around. “It’s important to stay calm. We know we have another level to go, and I’m confident we can show it in Paris. We just need to find more space and take our chances.”
As Arsenal heads into their crucial Champions League second leg, the stakes are high, and Saka’s determination to raise his game could be key to helping Arsenal reach their first European final in years.
