Manchester United are tracking Como starlet Assane Diao, with Cesc Fabregas confirming interest—but warning the 19-year-old won’t be sold easily.
Diao, who joined Como from Real Betis for €12m in January, has impressed in Serie A, scoring six goals in 12 games, and has attracted interest from Liverpool and Newcastle as well.
United scouts reportedly watched him in Como’s recent 1-1 draw against Empoli, and reports suggest they’re weighing up a €40m (£34.7m) bid.
Fabregas, now Como’s head coach, said the club isn’t looking to flip players for profit:
“There’s no mentality of speculating and selling. They come here to grow and improve the team… Obviously, Manchester can come and ask for Diao, but it’s not a given that he will leave.”
Diao also praised Fabregas’ project and vision when choosing to join Como earlier this year:
“After speaking directly with him, I had no more doubts.”
While Como may eventually entertain big offers, for now, they’re focused on building around their breakout star—not cashing in.
