Nigerian Legend Urges Lookman to Leave Atalanta

Former Nigerian international Duke Udi has urged Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman to part ways with Atalanta following harsh criticism from manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

Gasperini recently made headlines for calling Lookman “one of the worst penalty takers he has ever seen” after the Nigerian missed a spot-kick in Atalanta’s 3-1 Champions League defeat to Club Brugge.

Reacting to the remark, Udi expressed his disappointment in an interview with Africa Foot, stating that the manager’s words were both disrespectful and unwarranted.

“The manager was completely out of control and out of touch with his comments about Ade (Lookman),” Udi said. “In difficult times, a team should stand together.

Managers and players must support each other because football is a collective responsibility.”

Udi further condemned Gasperini’s remarks as humiliating, emphasizing that Lookman has given his all for Atalanta over the past few seasons. He believes the winger deserves better treatment and should seek a fresh start elsewhere.

“This level of disrespect is unacceptable,” Udi added. “Lookman has worked hard and contributed significantly to the team. If I were him, I would leave this summer.”

With the season nearing its end, Lookman now faces a big decision regarding his future, especially after losing the support of his manager.
