Bournemouth have reportedly softened their stance on Alex Scott’s future, opening the door to a potential January departure for the England international, provided interested clubs meet their substantial financial demands.

The 23-year-old midfielder has attracted interest from several leading Premier League clubs following his performances for the Cherries. While Bournemouth previously insisted that Scott was not for sale, the club are now understood to be willing to consider an offer worth approximately £100 million during the winter transfer window.

According to the BBC, senior figures at Bournemouth have indicated that the club could sanction Scott’s departure if a bid matching their valuation arrives. However, the potential transfer would depend on more than simply meeting the asking price, with the club’s position in the Premier League expected to influence the final decision.

Bournemouth had maintained a firm stance throughout the summer, viewing Scott as an important part of their plans for the 2026/27 campaign. In August, the club made it clear that they had no intention of allowing the midfielder to leave, despite growing interest from their domestic rivals.

The situation has reportedly changed following further discussions between the club’s hierarchy and Scott’s representatives. The midfielder is said to be interested in taking the next step in his career after turning down two lucrative contract extension proposals towards the end of the previous campaign.

However, Bournemouth are not prepared to weaken their squad without carefully considering the consequences. The club’s technical staff and board are reportedly unwilling to approve a mid-season departure if they find themselves battling relegation, given Scott’s importance to the team.

The £100 million valuation reflects Bournemouth’s desire to protect one of their most valuable assets. Transfer fees for elite central midfielders have risen significantly in recent seasons, and the Cherries appear determined to ensure that any potential sale reflects Scott’s importance and remaining contractual value.

Interest in the former Bristol City midfielder reportedly intensified during the summer, with clubs from the Premier League’s traditional Big Six making enquiries about his availability. Bournemouth nevertheless remained committed to retaining their core group of players, including Scott and young forward Rayan Eli Junior Kroupi.

That position could now face a fresh test when the January window opens. Scott’s reported desire for a new challenge, combined with Bournemouth’s willingness to consider a substantial offer, could create an opportunity for interested clubs.

Nevertheless, no transfer has been confirmed, and Bournemouth’s reported £100 million demand represents a significant obstacle for potential suitors. The club’s league position and the willingness of interested teams to meet their valuation will be central to determining whether Scott leaves the Vitality Stadium midway through the season.
