Dani Carvajal has signed for Getafe on a free transfer after the Spanish club secured approval from La Liga to complete the deal, bringing an end to uncertainty surrounding the right-back’s proposed move.

Getafe had reached a verbal agreement with the former Real Madrid defender several days earlier, with the transfer initially expected to be completed last week. However, complications involving the club’s salary cap threatened to derail the move before a financial solution was found.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Carvajal had already agreed to the terms of his contract, passed his medical examination and prepared to sign a deal running until the end of the season. The final obstacle emerged when Getafe attempted to register him with La Liga but discovered they lacked sufficient salary-cap space.

Club president Angel Torres subsequently provided the Spanish league with a financial guarantee, creating the necessary margin for Getafe to complete the registration process. With La Liga approval secured, the transfer has now been confirmed.

Carvajal is expected to be officially unveiled following Getafe’s trip to Universitatea Craiova next Thursday in the UEFA Conference League.

The experienced defender’s arrival represents an important addition for Jose Bordalas, whose side are looking to strengthen their squad after an inconsistent start to the campaign. Carvajal brings extensive experience at the highest level, having spent much of his career with Real Madrid and won numerous major honours, including six Champions League titles.

His arrival also provides Getafe with additional depth at right-back as they navigate a demanding schedule across domestic and European competitions.

Meanwhile, Getafe are continuing to explore the free-agent market, with Dani Parejo emerging as another potential target.

The 37-year-old midfielder, who is without a club after leaving Villarreal at the end of last season, has reportedly attracted interest from Getafe, with initial contact between the two parties already established.

Parejo remains a familiar name in Spanish football following spells with Real Madrid, Valencia and Villarreal. He also represented Getafe between 2009 and 2011, making a possible return particularly notable.

Beyond the pursuit of Parejo, Getafe’s recruitment team are still searching for another addition, particularly in attack. Bordalas wants greater firepower as his side balance the demands of La Liga and the UEFA Conference League alongside their other commitments.

With Carvajal now secured, Getafe will hope the former Real Madrid defender can provide the experience and defensive quality needed to improve their campaign, while further recruitment could follow before the club concludes its search for reinforcements.
