Coventry City and Newcastle United will both be looking to record consecutive Premier League victories when they meet at the CBS Arena on Monday.
The Sky Blues ended a 25-year wait for a top-flight victory before the international break, beating Nottingham Forest 1-0, while Newcastle narrowly defeated Hull City 2-1 to return to winning ways. Coventry had endured a difficult start to the 2026-27 campaign, losing their opening four Premier League matches without scoring and conceding 10 goals.
Coventry remain the Premier League’s lowest scorers, with just one goal from their opening five league matches. Their home form is another concern, having lost against Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion in the league before suffering a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup.
Newcastle arrive after a narrow 2-1 victory over Hull, with Joe Willock and Lewis Hall scoring inside the opening seven minutes. Harvey Barnes assisted both goals, making history as the first Newcastle player to provide two assists so early in a Premier League match.
Despite the victory, Matthias Jaissle’s side were far from convincing defensively, allowing Hull to register 22 shots. Their opponents also threatened a comeback through Mohamed-Ali Cho after Konstantinos Tzolakis saved Yoane Wissa’s penalty.
Newcastle had previously suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat away to Leeds United, but their response against Hull ensured they entered the international break in the top half of the table.

The Magpies have also scored in each of their three away matches across all competitions this season. They have won their last seven encounters with Coventry, whose most recent victory over Newcastle came in 1999. The teams have not met since a Championship fixture in 2010, which Newcastle won 4-1.
Team News
Coventry could receive a boost with Milan van Ewijk potentially returning from a hamstring injury after resuming training during the week. However, Lampard may decide to retain Caleb Yirenkyi at right wing-back following his recent performances. Kaine Kesler-Hayden has also recovered from a hamstring problem, but his lack of competitive action since May means he may need additional time to regain full match fitness.
The hosts remain without Haji Wright, who is recovering from a quadriceps injury, while Luke Woolfenden is sidelined with a knee problem. Josh Eccles and Aurele Amenda are also unavailable because of calf injuries. Taiwo Awoniyi will complete his three-match suspension following his dismissal in the heavy defeat against Brighton, further limiting Coventry’s attacking options.
Newcastle could welcome several players back into contention. Jaissle has indicated that three or four injured players could return for Monday’s fixture, with Joelinton recovering from a groin problem and Nico Gonzalez working his way back after a concussion.
Jacob Ramsey, Amar Dedic, Anthony Elanga, Dan Burn, Will Osula, Lewis Miley and Tino Livramento could also be considered for selection, depending on their fitness. Their availability would provide Newcastle with additional depth, although some may only be ready for a place on the bench.
Ewen Jaouen is expected to remain unavailable for approximately two months because of a hamstring injury.
Harvey Barnes will be another important player for Newcastle after his outstanding contribution against Hull. His two assists highlighted his creative influence, and he could again prove decisive against a Coventry defence that has struggled to maintain consistency.

Match Prediction
Softfootball Predicts Coventry City 1-2 Newcastle United.
Coventry will approach the contest with renewed confidence after their breakthrough victory against Nottingham Forest. However, their struggles in front of goal and disappointing home record remain major concerns. Newcastle have shown vulnerabilities defensively, particularly in their victory over Hull, but their superior attacking depth and impressive record against Coventry make them favourites.
