A Nigerian football journalist has praised the Super Falcons following their 2-0 victory over Comoros in the first leg of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers, while insisting that the scoreline did not fully reflect Nigeria’s dominance.
Speaking to Softfootball after the match at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, she expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, particularly the displays of players making their senior national team debuts.
One player who caught her attention was Joy Igbokwe, whose performance exceeded expectations, this was her statement,
I was impressed. I was really impressed,” she told SoftFootball while reflecting on the contributions of the new players in the squad.
The journalist described the performances of the debutants as one of the biggest positives from the encounter, noting that several players grabbed their opportunity to impress.
She praised:
- Joy Igbokwe’s energetic display in midfield
- The confidence shown by the newcomers
- The team’s intensity and work rate
- The overall quality of Nigeria’s play
According to her, the match offered encouraging signs for the future of the Super Falcons as the coaching staff continues to build a competitive squad.
Nigeria Should Have Scored More
Despite the comfortable victory, the journalist admitted she expected a much higher scoreline after watching Nigeria dominate large periods of the first half.
The Super Falcons created a number of chances but were unable to make the most of several promising opportunities.
“Man, I expected a lot of goals. I mean, we missed chances in the first half.”
She revealed that, based on the flow of the game, she believed Nigeria could have put the contest beyond Comoros before the halftime whistle.
“I was even thinking we’ll be able to get like four goals in the first half with the way Comoros were playing.”
While acknowledging that Comoros should not be underestimated, she maintained that Nigeria had enough opportunities to establish a far more commanding lead.

The Super Falcons eventually found the breakthrough in the second half, with Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu scoring to hand Nigeria an important 2-0 advantage heading into the return leg.
