Abasifreke Job, a journalist who spoke with Softfootball Media, shared her reaction after the Super Eagles came from behind to defeat Madagascar 2–1 in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Job described the encounter as a tense game and praised Nigeria’s second-half response after the Super Eagles struggled to convert several chances before the break.
She also reflected on Madagascar’s opening goal and discussed Stanley Nwabali’s performance in goal, noting the importance of the goalkeeper staying alert to situations such as set pieces and corners.
The journalist was also asked to assess Nigeria’s new invitees, Moses Usor and George Ilenikhena, who both made their competitive Super Eagles debuts in the match. Job gave the two players a rating of 7/10 for their performances.
Turning to head coach Éric Chelle, Job called for patience and urged Nigerians to give the coach sufficient time to implement his ideas with the national team. She also stressed that responsibility does not rest solely with the coach, pointing out that the players must execute their roles once they enter the pitch.
Job believes the Super Eagles can build from the victory as they continue their qualifying campaign, expressing hope that Nigeria will secure a place at the 2027 AFCON.
