Super Eagles and Valencia striker Sadiq Umar has joined Nigeria’s expanding injury list after suffering a hamstring injury that will rule him out until November.
Umar, who had been considering international retirement after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has been in prolific form for Valencia this season. His absence now adds to Nigeria’s mounting concerns ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He joins the likes of Paul Onuachu, Tochukwu Nnadi, and Victor Osimhen, all of whom are likely to miss the start of the qualifiers.
The 2027 AFCON qualifiers resume this September 2026, with the Super Eagles set to begin their campaign on:
- 23 September — Nigeria vs Madagascar
- 27 September — Guinea‑Bissau vs Nigeria
With several key attackers sidelined, Nigeria face a challenging start to their qualifying journey.
