Enzo Maresca has underlined the importance of squad depth as Manchester City look to challenge for the Premier League title, insisting that having several quality options is essential over the course of a demanding campaign.
Speaking after City’s narrow victory over Coventry, the manager highlighted the strength available to the club in midfield while acknowledging that their biggest rivals are similarly well equipped.
In his post match comments:
If you want to be there competing, you need options. Arsenal have options, we have options, more teams have options. Not just us!. I’m very happy with the options we have.
The comments come after an ambitious summer rebuild at the Etihad Stadium, with City spending more than £450 million as they reshaped their squad following the end of the Pep Guardiola era.
Among the club’s major additions is Enzo Fernandez, whose arrival has further increased competition for places in midfield. Maresca believes having players capable of rotating without significantly weakening the team will be crucial if City are to remain in contention throughout the season.
Softfootball understands that for Maresca, the competition is no longer about simply having a strong starting XI. The Premier League demands quality across the squad, particularly with injuries, suspensions, fixture congestion and European commitments capable of testing even the deepest teams.

City’s victory over Coventry kept their positive start on track, but Maresca’s comments suggest he understands that consistency will ultimately depend on the squad’s ability to cope with the challenges ahead.
With Arsenal and several other clubs strengthening significantly, the Premier League title race already promises to be fiercely contested, and Maresca believes City’s depth will be one of their biggest weapons.
