Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Arsenal can still overcome Liverpool and claim the Premier League title despite facing a difficult second half of the season.
The Gunners currently trail league leaders Liverpool by six points, with the Reds also having a game in hand.
Arsenal have also been hit by injuries to key attacking players, including Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, while Mikel Arteta’s side did not make any additions during the January transfer window.
Speaking about Arsenal’s decision not to strengthen their squad, Neville, as reported by Softfootball, insisted that the club’s title hopes remain alive. The former England international believes the type of striker Arsenal need was simply not available during the January window.
Neville said:
It’s a difficult window to do business in and the type of striker Arsenal need is a significant one and those players aren’t available.
Neville added that Arsenal could still benefit if Liverpool suffer injuries to important players during the remainder of the campaign.
Arsenal can still win the title. It’s a long shot but they just need to be there if Liverpool slip up. There’s a long way to go yet,
he added.
Arsenal will also face Newcastle United in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, with the Magpies holding a 2-0 advantage from the first meeting.
