Arsenal are edging closer to completing the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, with negotiations over a summer transfer progressing well. The Gunners are reportedly prepared to trigger the Spain international’s £51 million release clause, although the structure of the payment is still being discussed.

The 25-year-old has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time after impressing in La Liga and helping Spain win Euro 2024.

Reports suggest Premier League financial regulations have prevented the North London club from completing the deal this month, making a summer move the most likely outcome.

Zubimendi is expected to strengthen Arsenal’s midfield, especially with Thomas Partey’s future remaining uncertain beyond this season.

Real Sociedad are also keen to keep the midfielder until the end of the current campaign before allowing him to leave. Softfootball understands Arsenal still intend to pursue a striker during the January transfer window despite progress in talks.

Landing Zubimendi would represent a significant boost for Mikel Arteta as Arsenal continue planning for the future while competing for major honours across multiple competitions this season.
