Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted he is worried about Gabriel Jesus after the striker was forced off with a knee injury during Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.
The Brazilian left the pitch on a stretcher before halftime after appearing to be in significant pain, raising fresh concerns over his fitness.
Jesus was replaced by Raheem Sterling as Arsenal eventually lost on penalties following a hard-fought contest at the Emirates Stadium.
Softfootball understands Arteta is awaiting further medical assessments but acknowledged the early signs surrounding the injury are far from encouraging.
Speaking after the match, Arteta said:
Big worry, that’s my feeling. He had to come off on a stretcher with a lot of pain, touching his knee. It’s not looking good.
The Arsenal boss also clarified that the injury affected a different knee from Jesus’ previous setback. He added:
No, I think it’s the other one. The worrying factor is the feeling that he had.
The club is now expected to monitor the striker closely before confirming the extent of the injury.
