Raheem Sterling’s loan spell at Arsenal has failed to live up to expectations, according to former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore, who didn’t hold back when assessing the winger’s contribution so far this season.

Softfootball reports that Collymore singled out Sterling as one of the campaign’s biggest underachievers, saying:

Raheem Sterling has been a massive disappointment. He came in and said he was going to give the club his best work, but that hasn’t happened.

He’s arguably stunk the place out so far and he’s definitely one of the flops of the season having promised to do his best work at Arsenal.”

Collymore pointed to Sterling’s experience and trophy-laden career as reasons the underwhelming form stings even more, arguing the winger was expected to elevate the dressing room rather than blend into the background.

With Arsenal chasing a title challenge, the pressure on fringe signings like Sterling to justify their place is only likely to grow.
