Patrick Vieira is back in management, taking charge of Serie A side Genoa after the club parted ways with Alberto Gilardino.

The Arsenal icon had been out of work since leaving Ligue 1’s Strasbourg in the summer, and steps into a side that has managed just two wins from 12 league games this season.
Softfootball understands Gilardino’s exit followed six defeats in those 12 matches, a sharp decline after guiding Genoa to an 11th-place finish last season and, earlier still, promotion from Serie B in his first months in charge back in December 2022.
Vieira’s own departure from Strasbourg came by mutual consent after reported clashes with the club’s hierarchy over transfer and staffing decisions.
The 48-year-old’s managerial résumé already includes spells at New York City, Nice, and Crystal Palace, where he led the Eagles to a 12th-place Premier League finish before being sacked after a winless run. He’ll take charge of his first Genoa match against Cagliari on Sunday.
