Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho was unable to end his goal drought as Sevilla suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Leganes in Saturday’s Spanish La Liga encounter.
Softfootball understands that the Nigerian forward has now gone seven league appearances without finding the back of the net since joining Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City during the summer.
Iheanacho’s only goals for the Spanish club came in the Copa del Rey, where he scored a brace against lower-division opposition.
Miguel de la Fuente scored the decisive goal for Leganes with eight minutes remaining to hand Sevilla another disappointing defeat.
Sevilla’s hopes of staging a late comeback were further dented when Lucien Agoume was shown a straight red card in the 80th minute, forcing the visitors to finish the match with 10 men.
The defeat leaves Sevilla 13th in the La Liga standings with 15 points after their latest setback.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian international Chidera Ejuke remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from injury.
Despite his struggles at club level, Iheanacho is expected to link up with the Super Eagles squad for Nigeria’s upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches during the international break.
