Former Dimitar Berbatov has urged Manchester United to move quickly to sign Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP.
Softfootball understands that the Swedish striker has been one of Europe’s most prolific scorers this season under the guidance of Ruben Amorim, who is set to take charge at Manchester United later this month.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Berbatov said Gyokeres has been scoring goals for fun and suggested the strong relationship between the striker and Amorim could eventually see him move to Old Trafford.
The former United forward believes the club need to strengthen their attacking options, pointing to the team’s struggles in front of goal this season.
According to Berbatov, Manchester United’s current forwards have not produced enough goals, a situation he described as unacceptable for a club of the Red Devils’ stature.
He added that signing a proven goalscorer like Gyokeres would be a significant improvement for the squad as Amorim begins his reign at Old Trafford.
