Chelsea FC have expressed their sadness following the death of club legend Bobby Tambling, who passed away peacefully at the age of 84 surrounded by his family, Softfootball reports.

Reacting through a statement posted on their official X handle on June 4, 2026, Chelsea paid tribute to one of the most iconic figures in the club’s history.

The club said:

Chelsea Football Club has very sadly lost one of our most legendary players with the passing of Bobby Tambling at the age of 84. We send our deepest condolences to Bobby’s family and friends at this difficult time

Tambling remains one of Chelsea’s greatest-ever goalscorers, holding the club’s all-time scoring record with 202 goals for 45 years before it was eventually surpassed by Frank Lampard in 2013.

Beyond his remarkable goalscoring achievements, Tambling played a key role in one of Chelsea’s most exciting generations and helped the Blues secure their first major knockout trophy, winning the League Cup in 1965.

His legacy at Stamford Bridge extends far beyond statistics, with generations of supporters remembering him as a player who embodied the spirit and identity of the club.

Chelsea confirm Xabi Alonso as new head coach on a FOUR-year contract, valid until June 2030. While ex‑Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has been appointed as the new Manchester City head coach, signing a three‑year contract that runs until June 2029.
