Softfootball has gathered that Manuel Akanji will join Inter Milan permanently from Manchester City F.C. in a deal worth €15 million.

According to updates shared by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, the transfer is expected to be formalized in May following a successful loan spell in Italy.

Romano revealed:

Manuel Akanji will be Inter player on permanent deal from Manchester City, all set to be formalised in May. €15m fee to Man City for the Swiss defender.

Inter had surprisingly won the race to sign Akanji on loan from Manchester City last year after uncertainty surrounded his future in England. Since arriving in Serie A, the Swiss international has quickly established himself as an important figure in the team.

Akanji had previously made clear that he wanted to remain at Inter beyond the current season and was open to making the move permanent. His performances under Cristian Chivu have only strengthened the case for a full transfer.

Wearing the No. 25 shirt, Akanji has brought consistency, tactical intelligence, and versatility to Inter’s back line. Capable of operating as a centre-back or in wider defensive roles, he has added valuable balance during a demanding domestic campaign.

For Inter, securing an experienced international defender for €15 million is viewed as strong business in the current market. The fee gives them a proven performer without the financial strain of pursuing a younger, more expensive option.

For Manchester City, the move allows the club to recover value from a dependable squad player who is no longer considered central to long-term plans. With City continuing to refresh the squad after years of success, exits of experienced depth players remain part of the cycle.

If completed as expected, the transfer would represent a win for all parties: Inter keep a trusted starter, Akanji gains stability, and City free space for future changes.
