Felix Nmecha has officially signed a new long-term contract with Borussia Dortmund that will keep him at the club until June 2030.

The agreement was confirmed by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle. According to the report, the deal has been fully completed with all documents approved by the club’s legal department, following earlier information from journalist Patrick Berger.

Romano stated:

Felix Nmecha has signed new long term deal at Borussia Dortmund until June 2030. Deal agreed, as @berger_pj with documents also approved by legal side of the club. Manchester City were never in talks for Nmecha; #MCFC will sign a midfielder this summer, 100%… but he was never in shortlist.

Softfootball gathered that Nmecha’s previous contract at Dortmund was originally due to expire in 2028 after he joined the Bundesliga side from VfL Wolfsburg for €30 million in 2023. The new agreement extends his stay by an additional two years and significantly improves his salary, making him one of the better-paid players in the squad.

The 25-year-old midfielder has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs in recent months, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. His former club Manchester City were also mentioned in transfer speculation due to his history in their academy system.

However, Romano clarified that Manchester City were never in negotiations for the midfielder and that he was not included on their shortlist. The Premier League champions are still expected to sign a midfielder during the upcoming summer transfer window, but Nmecha was never a concrete option for them.

Dortmund’s decision to secure Nmecha’s long-term future is seen as an important step for the club as they shape the direction of their squad. The extension also comes during a period of uncertainty regarding the future of attacking midfielder Julian Brandt, who is reportedly unlikely to extend his current contract.

Meanwhile, Dortmund have recently suffered a major injury setback after captain Emre Can sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during a Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich on March 1, 2026. The match ended in a 3–2 defeat for Dortmund, and the 32-year-old midfielder is expected to miss several months while recovering from the serious knee injury.

The club is also hoping the commitment from Nmecha sends a strong message to other key players, including defender Nico Schlotterbeck, whose future has been the subject of significant speculation in recent weeks.

In separate transfer developments, Cristian Romero could attract significant interest ahead of the summer transfer window despite recently extending his contract with Tottenham Hotspur until 2027. The Argentine centre-back, who captains Spurs, remains on the radar of several major European clubs as Tottenham consider a potential squad rebuild at the end of the season.
