Tino Livramento is not close to joining Manchester City this summer despite reports suggesting a deal was progressing in the last 24 hours.

According to information confirmed by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano via his x handle, there are currently no negotiations, discussions, or advanced talks between Manchester City and Newcastle United regarding the right-back.

Softfootball understands Reports from England had suggested that Livramento could be set for a move to the Premier League champions in the upcoming transfer window. However, Romano clarified that while Manchester City are indeed planning to strengthen the right-back position, Livramento is not presently a concrete target.

Romano explained:

Tino Livramento is not close to joining Manchester City in a summer deal, despite reports in last 24h. Nothing concrete, advanced or close so far. City wanted Livramento one year ago but no fresh talks so far. #MCFC still expected to sign a RB.

Manchester City are still expected to recruit a new right-back during the summer transfer window as they look to reinforce their defensive options. However, the club is currently evaluating multiple candidates for the role and has not yet decided on a final target.

Romano added that although Livramento remains a highly rated player, City will assess several potential options before determining who best fits their squad needs.

Livramento has enjoyed an impressive season with Newcastle United, establishing himself as one of the most exciting young full-backs in the Premier League. Since arriving at St James’ Park, the England international has impressed with his pace, defensive awareness and ability to contribute in attacking phases.

His versatility has also become a major strength, as the defender is capable of operating on both flanks when required, making him a valuable asset in modern tactical systems.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are preparing for a major European challenge as they face FC Barcelona in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. The first leg is scheduled for March 10, 2026 at St James’ Park.

Much of the attention ahead of the clash has focused on Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, who has emerged as one of the most exciting attacking players in European football in recent weeks.

Barcelona travelled to Newcastle on March 8, giving the squad additional time to prepare and train before the crucial encounter. Based on current form and squad depth, the Spanish giants enter the match as favourites to progress.

Newcastle supporters, however, may have some concerns following their recent 3–1 defeat to Manchester City at St James’ Park. Despite their strong home record, the Magpies struggled to contain City’s attacking quality in that match, highlighting the challenge they will face against another top European opponent.
