World Cup winner and Tottenham defensive rock Cristian Romero has been a source of interest for the teams in the capital of Madrid.
We can confirm that Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have both registered interest in the Argentine defender, and it remains to be seen who gets the deal over the line.
However, there is a serious obstacle that could make the deal hard for the two Madrid teams—Tottenham’s valuation of the player.
Softfootball reported that Tottenham have placed a £60 million price tag on the World Cup winner, and their evaluation of Cristian Romero has not shifted, especially with Real Madrid’s interest now established.

Atletico Madrid are definitely unwilling to meet that figure and reportedly value the defender at just about half the asking price. Still, that hasn’t deterred an Atletico contingent led by Miguel Ángel Gil Marín from opening direct talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
Cristian Romero is reportedly leaning towards a move to the Santiago Bernabéu and would be eager to join Real Madrid should they submit a formal offer.
However, the Argentine is not willing to push for a move, as he respects Tottenham and appreciates his role as a key figure at the club.
Tottenham, for their part, are doing everything possible to keep hold of Romero and are even working on an improved contract that would make him one of the highest earners at the club.

They also view him as an important cog in their team ahead of playing Champions League football next season.
Real Madrid are keen to strengthen their defence and, earlier in the transfer window, snatched young defensive talent Dean Huijsen.
Softfootball also reported that the Madrid giants offered David Alaba to Galatasaray amid concerns over his future, and they would welcome the possibility of adding an experienced player like Cristian Romero to their ranks.
The future of the Argentine remains uncertain, and it will be interesting to see how things play out in the coming weeks.
