Former Arsenal player to appear in court on August 5 for alleged rape, sexual assault

Barely four days after he was released by Arsenal, Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, Crown Prosecution Service have confirmed.

Softfootball understands that the 32-year-old left North London on Tuesday, July 1 following the expiry of his contract and today, July 4 charged with two counts of rape which relate to one woman, three counts of rape relating to a second woman, and one count of sexual assault relating to a third woman.

According to the Mirror, the Ghana international will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5 2025. All the offences are alleged to have taken place during 2021 and 2022. The Met Police revealed that investigation by detectives began in February 2022 after a report of rape was first received.

MET Police released a statement that read: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives.

“The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1992), of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences: Five counts of rape, One count of sexual assault.”

Softfootball had reported earlier that Partey was set to leave Arsenal after negotiations on a new deal collapsed. Now, he and his attorneys need to deal with this rage and assault charges before he finalises a new deal with another club.

Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in September 2020 for £45million. He went on to make 167 appearances, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists for the Gunners.

Partey has played for Ghana 53 times which includes four international tournaments. The former Atletico Madrid midfielder featured in three Africa Cup of Nations campaigns (2017, 2019, and 2021) and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Partey won only one major trophy during his career and that is the 2018 Europa League with Atletico Madrid. At Arsenal, he lifted the 2023 Community Shield which is not regarded as a major title but a curtain-raiser ahead of every new season.
