Club World Cup: Chelsea star said, “PSG lost their heads for them to lift the trophy”

Softfootball recounts the ordeals of the just-concluded Club World Cup final between Chelsea and PSG at the MetLife Stadium last Sunday.

According to Joao Pedro, as reported by BBC, he said what made them distinct on Sunday night was that PSG lost themselves in the game, which allowed them to stun the French club where it hurts.

The game, which later ended in a sour experience for the Persians, saw them reduced to 10 men after João Neves was sent off for pulling the hair of Marc Cuccurella. It also saw João Pedro being harassed by PSG coach Luis Enrique following his actions against the Brazilian player.

Softfootball on Facebook shared a picture showing how Luis Enrique grabbed João Pedro by the throat during a heated touchline altercation late in the game. Tensions boiled over as Chelsea dominated PSG, and the PSG boss completely lost his cool.

João Pedro played a starring role in Chelsea’s Club World Cup final triumph over Paris Saint-Germain and found himself at the heart of the post-match melee that saw PSG boss Luis Enrique physically restrained by his players.

The Blues forward, who helped his side to a commanding 3-0 win, refused to stoke tensions after the heated scenes, instead suggesting PSG simply lost their composure in defeat.

Pedro, when asked about the altercation, said that it was expected for PSG to express their attitude due to the defeat and said that;

“I don’t need to talk about them.

“Everyone wants to win, and in the end I think they lost their heads. This is football. These things happen. For us, now is the time to enjoy it because we won the tournament, and that’s all that matters.”

The Brazilian, who has quickly established himself as a key figure under Enzo Maresca, added:

“I don’t want to say too much about them. You know how this works.”

Pedro’s cool head stood in contrast to PSG’s frustrations, as Chelsea cruised to a third major trophy under Maresca’s reign and capped off a remarkable summer campaign.

As earlier reported by Softfootball, Chelsea players heap a lot of praise on their goalscorers in the Blues’ 3-0 rout of PSG last Sunday. After demolishing the 2025 UEFA Champions League winners, PSG, Chelsea players could not hold back their thoughts after the game.

The players were full of praise for each other’s performance, especially for Cole Palmer, who starred in the game. The likes of Liam Delap, who used the trophy as a consolation for a breakup he received from his girlfriend during the competition, appreciated his teammates for making the final a special one for him as he won his first-ever title in the Chelsea shirt.
