Born on September 24, 1997, in Paddington, London, Tosin Adarabioyo was raised in Manchester, where his football journey began. Growing up in Whalley Range, he attended Chorlton High School and later St Bede’s College, an institution associated with Manchester City.

Tosin joined Manchester City’s youth academy at the age of five after impressing at a local five-a-side tournament. He briefly trained with Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers but committed to City, where he progressed rapidly. By 14, he had broken into the U18 squad and later captained the side in the 2014–15 FA Youth Cup final.

Manchester City: First-Team Breakthrough

During the 2015–16 season, Tosin was called up to Manchester City’s senior squad, making his debut in an FA Cup clash against Chelsea in February 2016. His composed performance against Diego Costa drew praise despite City’s defeat.

Under Pep Guardiola, he became the youngest player to start a UEFA Champions League match for City at 19 years and 73 days. Despite impressive showings, first-team opportunities were limited due to City’s defensive depth, leading to loan moves.

Loan Spells: Gaining Experience

West Bromwich Albion (2018–19 Season)

Tosin joined West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan, initially playing as a right-back due to a tactical shift. Though he struggled at first, he adapted and became a key player. He finished the season with 36 appearances, including a playoff semi-final loss to Aston Villa.

Blackburn Rovers (2019–20 Season)

At Blackburn, Tosin established himself as a first-team regular and scored his first senior goal in a win over Sheffield Wednesday. His defensive performances drew attention, with some suggesting a return to Manchester City. However, he remained at Blackburn, finishing the season with 34 league appearances and three goals.

Fulham: Establishing Premier League Credentials

In October 2020, Tosin signed for Fulham on a permanent deal. Forming a defensive partnership with Joachim Andersen, he delivered standout performances, including a clean sheet against Liverpool. Despite his efforts, Fulham was relegated at the end of the season.

The 2021–22 season saw him play a pivotal role in Fulham’s Championship-winning campaign, helping them secure an immediate return to the Premier League. He remained a key player until his contract expired at the end of the 2023–24 season.

Chelsea: A New Challenge

On July 1, 2024, Tosin joined Chelsea on a four-year contract. He quickly made an impact, scoring his first goal for the club in an 8–0 UEFA Conference League victory over FC Noah. In January 2025, he netted his first career brace in an FA Cup match against Morecambe.

International Career: England or Nigeria?

Tosin has represented England at youth levels, earning 14 caps from U16 to U19. While yet to make a senior appearance, he remains eligible for Nigeria. Though he reportedly declined an approach from the Nigeria Football Federation, he has expressed interest in playing for either England or Nigeria in the future.

Playing Style and Strengths

A towering 6’5” centre-back, Tosin excels in aerial duels, defensive clearances, and ball distribution. His ability to play out from the back has drawn praise from Guardiola and other coaches. In the 2020–21 season, he recorded more clearances than any other Premier League player.

Personal Life and Off-Field Influence

Tosin comes from a footballing family, with his older brother Gbolahan serving as his representative and middle brother Fisayo also pursuing a football career. In 2018, his name was mentioned by Raheem Sterling in a discussion about media bias against young black footballers, highlighting Tosin’s purchase of a home for his mother.
