Club Career

Early Beginnings: Avispa Fukuoka

Born in Fukuoka, Japan, Tomiyasu’s football journey began when he was scouted by the Sanchiku Kickers’ general manager, Kanji Tsuji, who was impressed by his speed and defensive awareness. Encouraged by Tsuji, his parents supported his development in football, leading him to enroll at Sanchiku Elementary School.

At just 11 years old, Tomiyasu was recommended for a trial at FC Barcelona’s Soccer Camp. He impressed during the trial, earning an offer to join Barcelona’s youth academy. However, due to relocation challenges, the move did not materialize. Despite this, Tomiyasu described the experience as “inspiring”, further motivating him to develop his game.

European Breakthrough: Sint-Truiden & Bologna

Tomiyasu’s professional career began at Avispa Fukuoka, before making a move to Belgian club Sint-Truiden. His performances in Belgium caught the eye of Serie A club Bologna, where he established himself as a top defensive talent in European football.

Arsenal Move & Premier League Impact

In 2021, Tomiyasu completed a move to Arsenal for a reported fee of up to £17 million.
