Jonny Evans has officially retired from football, concluding a remarkable career that saw him win major honours with Manchester United and earn 107 caps for Northern Ireland. The 37-year-old defender’s contract at Old Trafford has expired, ending his second spell with the club where he began his professional journey.

Evans’ career highlights include three Premier League titles, the Champions League, an FA Cup, and two League Cups with United, as well as another FA Cup during his stint at Leicester City. Across two spells at Manchester United, Evans made 241 appearances, scoring eight times and providing seven assists.

Returning to Old Trafford in 2023 after years with West Brom and Leicester, Evans played a mentoring role in his final season, often praised for his professionalism and high standards during training. Manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged his influence both on and off the pitch, particularly in helping develop younger players.

One of the many who paid tribute to Evans was midfielder Scott McTominay. The two shared a season together at United before McTominay made a move to Napoli. The Scotland international took to social media to reflect on their time as teammates, expressing admiration for Evans’ leadership and character.

Evans’ final appearance in United colours came during a post-season match in Hong Kong, where Amorim’s side came from behind to defeat the national team in a friendly fixture. Though his time on the pitch has come to a close, his impact at the club and for Northern Ireland remains significant.

Among Northern Ireland’s most decorated players, Evans leaves behind a legacy of resilience, consistency, and success, closing a chapter that began nearly two decades ago in United’s youth ranks.
