Joao Pedro’s preference for a move to London has put Chelsea in a commanding position as they formally open talks with Brighton over a summer transfer. The forward is now seen as a priority target for the Blues, who have submitted a €60 million offer.

Negotiations between the two clubs are expected to ramp up next week, with Chelsea eager to finalize the deal ahead of the Club World Cup. The move would significantly boost their attacking depth despite already securing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town earlier this window.

Pedro’s decision has dealt a blow to Newcastle United, who were also in pursuit of the Brazilian striker. After failing to secure Bryan Mbeumo—who is now leaning toward Manchester United—Newcastle have been forced to revisit their striker shortlist.

Chelsea are also exploring other options in attack, with ongoing interest in Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. However, Joao Pedro remains their primary focus as they aim to secure reinforcements ahead of their Champions League campaign.

With both Chelsea and Newcastle offering European football next season, the battle for Pedro seemed evenly matched—until the player’s London preference tipped the scales.
