The match which went down in front of just 20,030 fans at the 74,867-capacity Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte saw German Cano’s header put the Brazilian ahead in the first half while substitute Hercules scored a curling shoot from the edge-of-box late in the secure to secure a hard fought 2-0 win.

Speaking after the match, Martínez said: “I want to fight for top titles. Who wants to stay at Inter, very good and let’s fight. Who doesn’t want to stay, they can go and leave”.

“We need players who want to be here. We are wearing an important jersey. We need top mentality or please, leave.”

Softfootball had earlier reported that Inter Milan were eliminated by Fluminense. The Italian side had endured a very poor campaign at the FIFA Club World Cup under new manager Christian Chivu and would hope to improve the squad during the ongoing transfer window with new arrivals.

Fluminense will now face a quarter-final showdown against Manchester City or Al-Hilal on Friday, while Inter Milan will head into preseason ahead of their Serie A opener away at Torino in August.
